頭戴紅冠腳有金距羽毛鮮艷，
天剛破曉高聲啼叫已報清晨。
作爲祥瑞不必慚愧先獻給楚國，
在鬥雞場須信只有秦國獨尊。
在淮南也曾陪伴升仙的犬只，
在函谷關曾容許借其鳴叫催曉之人。
如今卑微棲息隨意飲食，
主人驅使我亦變得馴順。

At dawn's first light, its loud cry breaks the gloom.
As auspicious tribute, it shamed not Chu's claim,
In its own field, Qin's primacy won fame.
In Huainan, it joined the immortal hound,
At Hangu Pass, it lent its voice at daybreak's bound.
Now lowly perched, content with food and drink,
By master driven, to his will I link.
