不要追逐一時的風尚，
要以古代聖賢為榜樣。

爭權奪勢，趨附豪強，
我內心實在感到悲傷。
不要認為投機取巧是聰明，
不要認為謹慎小心是愚笨。
不要以為惡事很小，
就可以自我欺騙。
不要以為善事很小，
就放棄不去做。
行善去惡，
奮發志氣，把握時機。
年輕力壯時不努力，
年老時還能追求什麼？
你們的父親雖然愚昧，
但所說的話是恰當的。
要永遠以此為訓誡，
不要將我所說的遺忘。

To show you what you ought to hear.
Frugality lays the foundation true,
Learning grants wisdom to pursue.
Chase not the fleeting trends of the day,
But follow the ancient sages' way.
Hold fast to virtue, content with poverty,

Striving for power and wealth in haste,
Fills my heart with sorrow and distaste.
Do not deem cunning as clever and bright,
Nor think caution is foolish and slight.
Do not think a small evil can be ignored,
Lest you deceive yourself, your soul ignored.
Do not think a small good is too slight,
And abandon it, refusing to do right.
Cultivate good and cast evil aside,
With soaring will, seize the rising tide.
If in youth you do not strive with might,
What can you pursue when old, in fading light?
Though your father may be dull and plain,
The words I speak are wise and sane.
Take them as your eternal guide,
