我這位老夫忍受不了炎熱，
光著腳坐在瓦鼓上。
靠近池塘觀賞遊動的魚兒，
定住眼神再三地數著它們。
魚兒們非常害怕人，
想要游過去卻不敢過去。
一條魚試探著游到前面，
好像在報告沒有其他情況。
其他的魚起初想要跟隨，
卻突然全都轉身回去了。
時不時地傳飲一杯酒，
不知不覺間太陽即將西沉。

This old man cannot bear the heat,
Barefoot, he sits upon a clay drum.
By the pond he watches the swimming fish,
His fixed gaze counts them again and again.
The fish are quite afraid of man,
They wish to cross but dare not cross.
One fish ventures forth to test the way,
As if to report there is no danger.
The others first intend to follow,
But suddenly they all turn back.
From time to time, I pass a cup of wine,
Unaware, the day is about to end.
