周公旦的權衡是多麼公正平和。
秦朝崇尚嚴苛的刑法，
天下人都怨恨商鞅。
鳳凰偶爾鳴叫，
貓頭鷹也偶爾鳴叫。
一種鳴叫象徵著周朝，
一種鳴叫象徵著秦朝。
嚴酷的刑法會滅絕你的家族，
厚重的恩德能滋潤你的身心。
天帝厭惡殺伐征戰，
不要讓它們傷害這美好的陽春時節。

The Zhou upheld eight counsels, just and fair,
How balanced was the Duke of Zhou's decree!
The Qin enforced harsh laws, severe and bare,
All lands resented Lord Shang's tyranny.
The phoenix sings at times, a noble sound,
The owl shrieks as well, with malice bound.
One song heralds the Zhou's harmonious reign,
One cry foretells the Qin's oppressive chain.
Heavy laws will wipe your lineage away,
Virtue's weight will moisten your life's clay.
The Lord of Heaven hates the slaughter's strife,
Spare the spring sun, preserve all living life.
