The Stone Mortar's tale has long been told,
But where it lies, my comings and goings lost.
Dismounting, I ask the guard at the post,
He points to where the water's edge is rolled.
I walk slowly to its side,
A spade in hand awaits me there.
I ask what he intends to do, and he replied,
"This has been buried long, a secret rare."
"The sand and mud are easy to displace,
And at a touch, it will appear."
He swings the tool with hurried pace,
Two mortars show their essence clear.
Green as jasper, pure and bright,
Their luster needs no carving's art.
Their round form born of nature's light,
In size, they differ but a part.
The stone's root cannot be fully known,
Named 'Mortar' for the kind they share.
To match an object, paired and shown,
Buried in weeds, a sigh I bear.
If not for seeking by the name,
How could their preciousness be found?
Alas, my talent lacks high fame,
I force a poem to mark this ground.
