你體恤微賤、周濟急難的心意雖然周全，
但計較於權勢與錙銖，自己豈能心安？
你擔憂家計窘迫，困于田畝生計；
我畏懼宦途風波，前路艱難。
並非我不憐惜你像原憲一樣衣衫破舊，
實在是我自己也如范丹一般甑中生塵。
你的情意與禮數如此殷勤，我卻無以答謝，
慚愧地拿這似玉的石頭，來回報你的美玉。

Your care for the humble, aiding the urgent, is truly whole,
Yet weighing power and trifles, how can you find peace?
You worry for your family's straits in fields and furrows;
I fear the storms and perils on an official's path.
It's not that I don't pity your worn robes, like Yuan Xian of old;
But my dusty rice pot resembles that of Fan Dan.
Your sentiment and courtesy are earnest, yet I have no thanks to give;
Ashamed, I offer this mere stone in return for your precious jade.
