商山地區春夏兩季乾旱，
旱天打雷卻不降下雨滴。
到了秋天又陰雨連綿，
雷聲才偶爾響起一次。
雷聲在南山和北山間迴盪，
轟隆作響好似咆哮的猛虎。
君子的儀容必須變得莊重，
以此來表示對天怒的敬畏。
莫非是那雨神豐隆的鬼怪，
肆意地敲擊著雷鼓作樂？
既然這憤怒並非來自上天，
敬畏它又有什麼意義呢。

In Shangshan, spring and summer drought held sway,
Dry thunder roared, yet brought no rain to ground.
Then autumn came with endless, drizzling spray,
And thunder's voice would now and then resound.
From southern hills to northern hills it rolled,
Like roaring tigers, fierce and uncontrolled.
A noble man's demeanor must transform
To show respect for Heaven's wrathful storm.
But is it not the Rain God's impish sprite,
Who strikes the thunder drums with wild delight?
If this wrath does not from the Heaven spring,
What use is it to offer reverence?
