喜愛雅事的高人格外看重海棠，
將兩株樹苗分別栽種在船形書齋的兩旁。
它們恰好在燕子歸來時節綻放，
香氣更飄向禪房幽深的地方。
想來悟道的慧眼應憐愛它脫俗的風姿，
癡迷的人又何必苦苦怨恨它沒有濃香？
我這梅溪野老曾經親眼見過這樣的美景，
如今想尋得一株幼苗，栽種在我的草堂前。

The connoisseur, fond of fine things, prizes the crabapple tree,
Two saplings, planted apart, flank the study boat with glee.
They bloom just as the swallows return in season's grace,
And scent the deeper chambers of the quiet, sacred space.
The enlightened eye, I think, must love its uncommon air,
Why should the foolish heart lament its fragrance isn't there?
This old man of Plum Creek once beheld such a sight,
And longs to find a shoot to plant before my thatched retreat.
