萬鐘的俸祿難道不多嗎？
但孟子卻辭謝了這份財富。
擁有千乘之國的君主與子思交友，
子思仍說需要以我爲師。
古代的賢者不容易被奉養，
奉養賢者本身就是目的。
當今的賢者卻很容易被奉養，
不必懷疑他們比古人更勝一籌。

Ten thousand measures of grain—are they not ample?
Yet Mencius declined the wealth, his virtue a sample.
A lord of a thousand chariots befriended Zisi,
Who still said, "I need my master," with no compromise.
The ancient worthies were not easy to sustain,
To support the wise was an end, not for personal gain.
Today's worthies find support with effortless ease,
No need to doubt they surpass the ancients in these.
