高大的廳堂，地基堅實，宏偉壯麗，
卻徒然把稀疏的竹簾長長地垂到地。
若一定要滿堂陰暗以取樂，
誰能在暗室中自己做到毫無欺瞞？
竹簾的捲起與放下，未必不是風有意爲之；
簾幕的縫隙，須提防燕子懂得窺探。
莫說這簾幕終究可以遮蔽一切，
即便真能永遠遮蔽，又有什麼意義？

The lofty hall, on solid ground, stands grand and fair,
Yet a sparse bamboo curtain is lowered to the floor with care.
If you desire the whole room in shade for pleasure to keep,
Who, in a darkened chamber, from self-deception can leap?
Rolling and unrolling, the wind may not be without intent;
Through gaps, beware the peeking swallows, on mischief bent.
Do not think that a curtain can forever block the sight,
And even if it could, what purpose serves such endless night?
