十尋高的瘦削樹幹在三冬時節依然青翠，
一畝地的濃密樹蔭在六月帶來清涼。
不要說世間良材難以被任用，
要知道上天的意旨不會讓它白白生長。
它好似長蛟和老蜃，身影在空中舞動；
又像驟雨和驚雷，聲音在半夜響起。
它卻嘲笑泰山下的五棵松樹，
竟肯用正直的節操去侍奉秦王嬴政。

A slender trunk of ten fathoms stays green in deep winter,
An acre of thick shade brings coolness in the sixth moon's heat.
Do not say that fine timber in this world finds no use—
You must know Heaven's will does not create in vain.
Like long flood dragons and old serpents, its shadow dances in the air;
Like sudden rain and startling thunder, its voice sounds at midnight.
Yet it laughs at five pines beneath the sacred mountain,
Which bent their straight joints to serve the King of Qin.
