出仕爲官的話題不過是耳邊新起的傳聞，
我的夢又因何能到達那紫宸宮闕？
自古以來，行仁德的人便知道不會富有，
如今研習大道，難道還憂慮貧窮？
與其用鞭打來榨取百姓的骨髓，
不如安於簞食瓢飲，以此身爲樂。
有志之士不忘記（堅守氣節）葬身溝壑的誓言，
不應說後世便沒有這樣的人了。

The talk of official posts is but a new whisper in my ear,
How could my dream ever reach the purple imperial sphere?
Since ancient times, the benevolent have known wealth is not their fate,
And now, pursuing the Way, why should I fear a poor estate?
Better to live content with a simple bowl and gourd,
Than whip the people and drain their marrow, a cruel lord.
A man of purpose does not forget the ditch or mound—
Surely in later ages, such men will still be found.
