竹林曾經遭受凍害，幾乎枯死；
春天的竹筍卻連年不斷地再次萌發生長。
上天賦予它們與歲末嚴寒抗爭的倔強品性；
水分來自淇水之濱，使它們轉而繁榮茂盛。
狂野的竹鞭已經追逐野草，侵占了小徑；
疏朗的竹影長久地伴隨著月光，映照到門前的柱子上。
嵇康和阮籍若是想來，就跟隨我多餘的閒暇吧；
我將開門一笑，也歡喜地迎接他們。

The bamboo grove once withered, struck by frost and cold;
Yet spring shoots, year on year, break through the earth anew.
Heaven grants them strength to brave the winter's hold;
Moisture from Qi's banks makes their lush green renew.
Wild runners now invade the path, through grass they creep;
Sparse shadows stretch with moonlight, reaching to the rail.
Were Ji Kang and Ruan Ji to come, from sleep I'd leap—
With open door and smiling face, I'd bid them hail.
