是誰最先開鑿出這險峻的峽谷？
山川在此展現出奇異隱祕的形貌。
這應當只是天地自然的設計營造，
未必是鬼神之力所爲，刻意雕鑿。
崩落的巨石驚擾著行船安然經過，
盤旋的渦流逼迫著船槳改變航道。
蓬萊仙山仿佛就在眼前可以望到，
冰冷的淚水掛在猿猴哀鳴的枝梢。

Who first carved this gorge, a wonder of earth and sky?
Mountains and streams reveal their secret, strange design.
This must be the work of Heaven and Earth alone,
Not wrought by ghosts or spirits, by no power divine.
Tumbling rocks startle the boat as it passes by,
Whirling eddies force the oars to shift their line.
If the Isle of Penglai could be glimpsed by this eye,
Tears would chill on branches where gibbons weep and pine.
