請不要划動船槳，
划動船槳會驚擾到鴻雁，
鴻雁並不羨慕那些低賤的魚蝦。
它們夜晚棲息於江湖，白晝翱翔於雲霄，
我若見不到它們，內心就會煩亂不安。
請不要敲響船舷的響木，
敲響響木會使鴻雁飛走。
鴻雁並非雞鴨之類的家禽，
我若見不到它們，內心就會感到深深的悲哀。

Do not strike the oar,
Striking the oar startles the wild geese,
The wild geese do not envy the lowly fish and shrimp.
At dusk they lodge on rivers and lakes, by day they soar among the clouds,
When I cannot see them, my heart is troubled.
Do not sound the wooden clapper,
Sounding the clapper makes the wild geese take flight.
The wild geese are not like barnyard ducks and chickens,
When I cannot see them, my heart is filled with sorrow.
