修長的竹子和低垂的楊柳掩映著門戶栽種，
清涼的風時常將午間的樹蔭送來。
家門因爲喜好賓客而時時打掃，
窗戶爲了觀賞山景而面面敞開。
這種樂趣恐怕會被兒輩們察覺，
長久的貧窮能免去世俗人情的猜疑。
儒生的衣衫不如牛衣來得舒適，
我叮囑儉樸的妻子裁剪時要做得窄些。

The clear breeze often sends the noon-tide shadows nigh.
The gate is swept for welcome guests from time to time,
And every window opens wide for mountain views sublime.
Such joy, I fear, my children might come to know,

A scholar's robe is not as good as one of cowherd's wear,
I urge my frugal wife to cut it narrow with care.
