金谷園中，桃樹和李樹叢生，
花費了許多鋤鏟培植的工夫。
寒冷的冰層還沒有完全消融，
花和葉子卻已經茂盛繁密。
堅貞的松樹生長在南山上，
那裡岩石古老，土壤貧瘠。
春天雖已回來，氣候尚且淺寒，
松樹的生機幾乎要停息了。
春神東皇本來並無私心，
但草木托根之地卻形態顏色各異。
怎能說天地化育的功勞，
竟比不上糞土的肥力呢？

In Golden Valley, peach and plum trees grow in clusters,
Much toil is spent on hoeing and nurturing them.
Though the cold ice has yet to thaw completely,
Their blossoms and leaves already flourish lushly.
The steadfast pine grows on the southern mountain,
Where rocks are old and the soil is barren and lean.
Even as spring returns, the warmth is still shallow,
Its vital force seems on the verge of fading away.
The Lord of Spring is by nature impartial and fair,
Yet roots take hold in forms and hues so diverse.
Who would have thought the work of Heaven and Earth
Could not match the power of manure and soil?
