山頭上的鹿發出呦呦鳴叫，
毛色角形天生美好可愛。
渴了就飲山澗底部的清泉，
餓了便啃食林間的野草。
朝廷正採用和親政策，
將軍在灞陵閒居衰老。
天氣寒冷，弓力變得強勁，
樹木凋零，霜氣早早來到。
穿著短衣每日馳馬射獵，
追逐的鹿應著弓弦聲倒下。
命運將它繫於金盤犀箸（成爲盤中餐），
它在蒼翠山壁間的蹤跡如同被掃除。
何時皇帝下詔北伐胡人，
重新起用將軍遠征討伐？
但願上林苑中泉甘草茂，
讓我們母子能長久相依保全。

The deer on the mountain, calling soft and clear,
With lovely fur and antlers, charming and dear.
Thirsty, it drinks from the spring at the ravine's base,
Hungry, it gnaws on the grass in the wooded space.
The Han court now seeks peace through marriage alliance,
The general grows old by Baling, in quiet compliance.
The sky turns cold, the bow's force grows strong and keen,
Leaves fall, the frosty air arrives early and keen.
In short coat daily he gallops and shoots with might,
Chasing the deer, it falls as the bowstring takes flight.
Fate ties it to the golden plate and rhino-horn chopsticks' plight,
Its tracks on the green cliff and gray crag are swept clean out of sight.
When will the edict come to strike the northern foe?
To rouse the general for a distant campaign's woe?
With sweet springs and lush grass in the Shanglin Park's domain,
May doe and fawn live safe together, free from pain.
