我的園子裡養著兩隻獐子，
它們容易受驚，不容易馴服。
到現在才過了沒多久，
它們就垂下耳朵常常親近人。
餓了就吃園中的草，
渴了就喝溝澗邊的水。
我時常省下些餘糧餵它們，
也沒有耗盡我的糧倉。
官吏或許沒有良好的政績，
盜賊就從平民中興起。
誰能用德行來撫慰百姓，
坐待恢復三代時醇厚的風氣？

In my garden, I keep two young river-deer;
They startle easily, not easily tamed.
And now, after only a short time here,
They droop their ears and by my side are claimed.
When hungry, they eat grass within the garden's bound;
When thirsty, they drink from the ditch or stream nearby.
From time to time, I spare some grain I have around;
It does not deplete my granary supply.
If officials lack good governance in their reign,
Bandits and thieves will rise from common people's pain.
Who can soothe them with virtue, gentle and benign,
And bring back the pure customs of ages divine?
