熾熱的暑氣在天空中運行，
細嫩的皮膚汗如雨下。
輕薄的細葛布像霧一樣，
披在身上與鎧甲無異。
我披散頭髮垂在兩肩，
將萬事拋棄不理。
在寸陰下度日如年，
如何能等到日暮時分？
曾聽說交州、廣州一帶，
暑熱比此地更爲酷烈。
如果這裡已難以忍受，
那裡的人豈不都熱死了？
姑且拄著短杖出行，
去北澗嬉戲清澈的流水。
何必非要等待賞賜的冰塊，
讓恩澤的光輝驚動鄉里。

The blazing sun marches across the mid-heaven,
My soft skin sweats, its moisture turning to streams.
Fine silk, thin as mist, clings to my form,
No different from a suit of armor weighing me down.
I let my hair down, hanging loose over both shoulders,
And cast aside all worldly affairs, paying them no mind.
A single inch of shade feels like a year passing,
How can I wait until the sun sets at dusk?
I've heard that in the lands of Jiao and Guang,
The summer heat is even fiercer than this.
If this is already unbearable,
How could they all not perish from the heat there?
I shall, for now, take up my short staff,
And head to the northern stream to play in its clear waters.
Must I wait for the bestowed ice as a favor,
Whose gracious light stirs the entire village?
