酒釀熟了固然令人歡喜，
酒喝盡了也依然怡然自得。
有客人來就暢談闊論，
沒有客人就枕著書卷安眠。
餓了就喝不加米粒的羹湯，
閒時便彈奏沒有琴弦的琴以自娛。
採摘台階下的花兒聞嗅其香，
捧起山澗底的清泉嬉玩。
啄木鳥抱著生蟲的花枝，
黃鶯在桑樹梢頭鳴叫。
欣然地爲此露出一個微笑，
人世的瑣事哪裡值得捨棄？
沒有人像罵鄭虔那樣罵我，
也沒有人像嘲笑孝先那樣嘲笑我。
回頭看著那扎著三角髻的童子，
我與你可以忘卻年齡的差距。

When wine is gone, contentment still lingers there.
With guests, we engage in lively, profound talk;
Without, I pillow on books and take a walk in sleep.
Hungry, I sip plain broth without a grain of rice;
Leisurely, I pluck a stringless lute for delight.
I pluck and smell the flowers blooming by the steps;
I cup and play with the spring at the ravine's depth.
The woodpecker hugs the worm-riddled flower stem;
The oriole sings atop the mulberry tree.
With a heart full of cheer, I break into a smile—
Why bother with the world's cunning and its guile?
No one now scolds me like Zheng Qian in days of yore,
Nor mocks me as they did Xiao Xian, that sage of lore.
Looking back at the boy with hair in triple tufts,
I say: 'With you, my lad, I forget the years' gaps.'
