典當衣服來修葺北面的書齋，
傾斜破損的牆壁勉強支撐起來。
窗戶和門只是虛有其名，
但姑且足以度過寒暑。
獨自學習沒有人與我討論，
推究核實實在勞心費力。
仔細體察古人的心意，
十成之中也能懂得四五成。
沒有功績能與子孫的光輝相比，
這種相互認可難道還需要言語嗎？
一張床寬闊而有餘地，
我高臥其上，靜聽屋簷的雨聲。

Pawned my coat to repair the northern study,
Propped up its tilting walls, a makeshift hold.
Windows and doors are but names, empty truly,
Yet enough to pass through heat and cold.
Studying alone, with none to debate,
Pushing for proof is a toilsome weight.
Scrutinizing the ancients' intent,
I grasp perhaps four or five in ten.
No merit to rival the light of sons,
This mutual understanding needs no speech.
A bed wide enough with room to spare,
I lie high, listening to the eaves' rain there.
