楚地群山積聚著連綿陰雨，
眾多山谷水勢盛大，發出怒吼。
虎豹失散了它們的同類，
蛟龍失去了棲身之所。
水勢衝開蒼翠的山崖，排列奔湧，
力量足以推動巨石傾注而下。
頃刻之間，洪水漫上青天，
一片微茫，淹沒了高大的樹木。
這座城池依傍著平原，
自古以來就像懸掛在北方的葫蘆。
怎敢推辭被淹沒的災禍？
漂浮不定實在令人恐懼。
大禹治水的功績已無法企及，
河伯又想向誰發洩憤怒呢？
寧可讓蛙龜歡欣雀躍，
姑且成為禍害百姓的蛀蟲。
修築堤防的力量不足，
疏通導洩的志向依然嚮往。
怎能鞭策那傳說中的大龜馮蠵，
從此讓它馱負著馳騁萬里？

A hundred valleys roar in torrential spates.
Tigers and leopards flee their lost domains,
Dragons and serpents lose their watery gates.
The force splits cliffs, arrayed in furious might,
And hurls against great boulders with fierce spite.
In moments, azure skies are drowned in flood,
And towering trees stand soaked in swirling mud.
This city rests upon the level plain,
Since ancient times, a gourd hung north in air.
To dare complain of inundation's pain?
Nay, floating, drifting—this is true despair.
Great Yu's achievements now are out of reach,
To whom shall River God his anger teach?
Better to please the frogs and turtles' cheer,
Than be the people's bane, year after year.
To build strong dikes—our strength is all too slight,
To dredge and channel—still our hearts take flight.
Oh, could I whip the giant turtle's might,
To race ten thousand miles from morn till night!
