Though the master appears fragmented and wandering, in the Way he is a whole man.
He never sought to please or anticipate, yet those who come naturally wish to be close.
Often he settles matters of right and wrong, frequently stirring the spirit within.
Ranging over ten thousand affairs, his fervor startles the neighbors all around.
Thus I know to keep the whole self, one need not be a hermit in mountain wilds.
Thus I know to care for the present age, one need not be a court minister.
Speech and silence both find their place, movement and stillness can each be followed.
Ah, those petty men, who can recognize my true essence?
