背離正道,追求詭詐的際遇。
如同剝蝕床榻直至肌膚,
錢財貨物堆積如山如泉。
賞賜的黃金號稱百斤,
封賞的食邑多至千戶。
倘若沒有天命的變故,
這地位豈不豐厚且穩固?
商鞅已被誅殺滅族,
桑弘羊也遭刀鋸之刑。
寄語那些身穿儒服的士人:
安然漫步,自得於平實的步履。
The great Confucian masters of Qi and Lu
Devoted themselves to specialized texts and lines.
To adapt to affairs was not their strength—
How then could they be charged with practical tasks?
Yet in their hearts of loyalty and filial love,
They were fit to serve their lord and father.
Not like the merchants seeking profit,
Who turn from the Way and chase crafty gains.
As decay reaches the bed and touches the skin,
Wealth like springs and mountains piles high.
Gifts of gold are called a hundred catties,
Fiefdoms grow to a thousand households.
If no heavenly change occurs,
Would it not be rich and secure?
Shang Yang was executed and wiped out,
Sang Hongyang also met the saw and blade.
A word to those in scholar's robes:
Walk slowly, content with a steady pace.
