Trampled by frost's harsh might, it seems the flesh would sever;
Yet proud against the cold, the southern branch stands high.
A gentle breeze stirs, wafting fragrance hither and thither;
The bright moon adds its touch, a shimmering, scattered dye.
Already in the palace, skilled hands adorn with art;
Still, by the valley's mouth, her unworldly grace remains.
I lack those lines of slanting shadows, set apart—
And deeply shame before the hermit Lin Bu's strains.
