這些南方的士兵，坐享其成，飽食終日，
驕縱任性，與富貴人家的子弟一樣。
揹負鎧甲就彎腰駝背，
扛著戈矛卻不能快步奔跑。
喧鬧的金鼓之聲震耳欲聾，
他們的氣勢受挫，失去了作戰的意圖。
本來就沒有一項精良的技能，
空有七尺高的身軀。
我聽說孫武的教導，
能讓柔弱的女子變成勇武的戰士。
我想要訓練你們這些人，
使你們變得像咆哮的猛虎一樣。
無奈天子的詔令，
苦苦禁止私藏兵書。
軍隊平素不熟悉戰事，
壯士的內心猶豫徘徊。
蠻族部落屢次騷動侵擾，
主將卻又被貶官左遷。
有了緊急情況，用什麼來應對？
想到這些，真令人震驚歎息。

The southern soldiers, sitting idle, eat their fill,
Arrogant and pampered, like young masters of noble will.
Bent low beneath the weight of armor they must bear,
Shouldering spears, they cannot even run anywhere.
The clamor of gongs and drums deafens the ear,
Their courage falters, their purpose lost in fear.
Truly, not a single skill of worth they own,
Only a tall frame of flesh and bone.
I've heard how Master Sun, through training strict and deep,
Turned weak maids into warriors fierce, their vigils to keep.
I wish to drill you all, this motley crew,
To make you roar like tigers, fierce and true.
But alas! The emperor's decree, a bitter ban,
Forbids the hoarding of military books by man.
Unpracticed in the arts of war, the soldier's trade,
The stoutest heart grows hesitant, afraid.
The southern tribes stir up trouble, time and again,
While our chief commander is dismissed, his efforts vain.
When crisis comes, how shall we answer the call?
To think of it is dreadful, appalling all.
