徵收鹿角稅使百姓一年比一年更加勞苦，
因此栽種榆樹和柳樹，環繞著城牆的壕溝。
它們交錯的枝條，其緊密豈在籬笆之下？
它們高聳的樹幹將要凌駕於城牆的矮牆之上。
說到屏障防衛，沒有比枳棘更應被輕視的（應先重視它），
這片森嚴的樹林，無需旌旗，日日挺立。
持霜刃斧斤的人，切莫貪圖微小的利益（而砍伐它們），
要珍惜這四面牢固如金城湯池的防禦。

Collecting deer-antler tax wearies the people year after year,
Hence we plant elms and willows encircling the city moat.
Their twining branches, dense as wattle fences, grow thick and near,
Their towering trunks will soon surpass the parapets' height.
For defense, nothing surpasses the thorny bramble's might;
A stern, unyielding forest, no banners needed here.
Frost-edged axes, beware! Do not covet petty gain in sight,
Cherish this golden fortress, firm on every side, hold it dear.
