竹影斑駁，初染月色如貼金；
寒梢高聳，蒼翠欲要衝入雲霄。
我平生本就輕視那些庸碌之輩；
但一日怎能沒有這位君子（竹）相伴。
它能招來南風驅散炎夏暑氣；
我打算在清澈的渭水邊封賞它，以答謝其特殊功勳。

In those years, my confidant was the Jin Dynasty's Army Advisor;
The painter's hand passed down the style of old Master Ke Wen.
Its fragmented shadows, gilded, first catch the moonlight;
Its cold tips, towering emerald, seem to pierce the clouds.
All my life, I've naturally looked down on lesser men;
But not a single day can I be without this gentleman.
It can bring the south wind to dispel the summer heat;
I'd fain enfeoff it by the clear Wei River for its special merit.
