如今來到崖州，境遇令人嘆息；
夢中常常仿佛還在京城繁華之地。
路途遙遠何止一萬里；
這裡戶口總共還不到三百家。
夜晚聽見猿猴在孤樹上啼叫，聲音來自遠方；
清晨看見潮水上漲，瘴氣斜斜瀰漫。
這裡的吏員不懂朝廷的禮儀；
麋鹿時常跑到縣衙里來。

Now I've come to Yanzhou, a matter for sighs;
In dreams I often seem to be in the capital's embrace.
The journey's length is far more than ten thousand miles;
The households number less than three hundred in this place.
At night, I hear apes wail by a lone tree, distant and drear;
At dawn, I watch the tide rise through slanting miasma's haze.
The clerks here know not the rites of the central court's sphere;
And elk and deer oft wander to the county office's maze.
