我步履蹣跚，追求功名已爲時太晚，
性情疏懶，頭上白髮已越來越多。
這一生姑且就這樣隨意度過罷了，
建功立業的事情，究竟能成就如何？
我坐在這裡與這位君子（竹子）交談，
又有誰會攜帶著美酒來拜訪我呢？
從前那闖蕩江湖的豪邁氣概，
如今老了，就交付給這浩渺的煙波吧。

My halting steps toward the azure clouds come late,
My idle ways have brought forth many a silver thread.
This life of mine is but a makeshift, transient state;
What of my deeds and merits, now all hope has fled?
I sit and talk with you, my friend, the bamboo here,
Who will bring the Wine God to dispel my gloom?
That spirit of the lakes and seas, once bold and clear,
Now, aged, I consign to misty waves and their doom.
