南園之中沒有空閒的土地，
於是向園子的東面開鑿池塘。
池塘中央建起一座高而遠的平臺，
姑且可以讓小船通行往來。
四周楊柳嫋娜環繞，
十畝的菱角與荷花紅豔豔地開放。
何必遠行去往五湖呢？
家門之前就有足以賞玩的明月與清風。

No empty space in the southern garden remained,
So we dug a pond eastward, where the land was drained.
A terrace rises in the midst, distinct and fair,
Where a little boat can pass with ease and care.
Willows sway gently, encircling all around,
Ten acres of lotus and caltrop red are found.
Why seek the Five Lakes, wandering far and wide?
Before my gate, the moon and breeze forever abide.
