百擔書籍讓你的行裝沉重，
身懷千金之才卻無產業，囊中依舊清貧。
十來天前我們攜手交談，話音猶在耳邊；
昨日你題寫的詩句，墨跡尚且新鮮。
清早我來拜訪你，卻再也喚不醒你——
在寢門之外，我一聲痛哭，淚水沾溼了衣巾。

You went forth as a clarifying envoy to the southern peaks,
And returned to serve as a courtier in the Hall of Sweet Springs.
A hundred loads of books made your luggage heavy;
Though worth a thousand in gold, you owned no property and your purse was poor.
For ten days we talked arm in arm—your words still linger;
The poem you inscribed yesterday—its ink is still fresh.
At dawn I came to visit, but could not rouse you—
At your chamber door, one burst of grief, and tears soak my kerchief.
