南山的雲想要歸去。
北山的雲正欲湧出。
北山已經化作了雨。
南山卻還沐浴著日光。
天風忽然吹拂揚起。
南山與北山雲氣渾然如一。
白雲本來沒有心機。
不知究竟憑藉何種玄妙之術。
湧出的並未見得有所獲得。
歸去的也並未見得有所損失。
茫茫然從古延續至今。
人世間的道理，或許倒可以評說。

Clouds over the southern hills are drifting home.
Clouds over the northern hills are rising high.
The northern hills are drenched in a sudden rain.
The southern hills still bask in the sun's warm eye.
A sudden wind from heaven lifts them all.
And north and south become one cloudy wall.
The white clouds have no will of their own.
What art they use remains unknown.
Those rising gain not a whit.
Those returning lose not a bit.
Vast and vague, from ancient times till now.
The ways of the world, perhaps, we can avow.
