美丽莫过于汉朝的宫妃,谦逊莫过于黄家的女子。
黄家女子秉持谦逊得享高寿,汉宫妃子倚仗美色被召上天庭。
人生的容貌与品德都无法自保,圣人又何必去推演天道呢?
您没看见吗,蔡泽相貌枯瘦怪异,却凭大话直接取得秦国丞相之位;又没看见吗,田千秋才智并不出众,一朝富贵却如有神助。
这两位侯爷的事迹记载在史册上。
而那位为麒麟哭泣的老人(孔子)最终困顿潦倒。
夜光珠怀抱着遗憾,徒然悲叹。
日月流逝啊,我将去往何方?
None is as beautiful as the Han palace consort; none is as humble as the Huang family maiden.
The Huang maiden, holding humility, lived to old age; the Han consort, relying on beauty, was taken to heaven.
In life, looks and virtue cannot protect oneself; what use is it for sages to expound the Way of Heaven?
Have you not seen Cai Ze, with his gaunt and grotesque shape, whose bold talk directly won him the Qin chancellorship? And have you not seen Tian Qianqiu, whose talent was no greater than others, yet gained wealth and honor overnight as if by divine aid?
The deeds of these two lords are recorded in the books.
Yet the old man who wept for the unicorn ended in hardship.
The night-shining pearl harbors regret, a deep sigh of sorrow.
The sun and moon pass on; where shall I go?
