听说淮南一带的道路，
胡人兵马扬起的尘土遮天蔽日，满眼昏黄。
我保全性命苟活，愧对国中那些为国捐躯的志士，
想起君王卧薪尝胆，立志复仇。
击退敌人不能仅凭盾牌与武器，
确立威信要依靠法度纲纪。
我的一片丹心几乎要因忧惧而碎裂，
久久伫立，只是彷徨无措。

Word comes of the Huainan road,
Where Tartar dust clouds all in yellow shroud.
I shame, a scholar, to keep body whole,
While our lord tastes the gall to steel his soul.
To ward off foes, no shield or armor serves;
Our trust and might lie in the rules he observes.
My loyal heart is breaking with despair;
Alone I stand, bewildered, here and there.
