巍峨的楼阁高耸入云，紧挨着水边，
刚一询问它的兴衰往事，便令人伤神。
当年鸣銮的东阁如今又在何处？
早已有人跨鹤飞往西山去了。
垂柳映照着江中小洲上暮色里的落霞，
野田上春草铺展在斜阳之下。
连群鸥也厌烦了过多的悲感，
偏偏与忘却机心的客人最为亲近。

The lofty tower stands majestic by the water's edge,
To ask of its rise and fall at once wounds the spirit.
Where now is the phoenix carriage at the eastern pavilion?
Another has ridden the crane to the western hills.
Willows reflect the fading glow on river isles at dusk,
Grass spreads under the slanting sun on spring fields.
Even the flock of gulls, weary of too much sorrow,
Finds the guest free of worldly schemes most dear.
