但笨拙不敏的人,其本性终究更接近美德。
人们都嘲笑那位长髯的老者(曾子),
唯独我为他长久地叹息,深感不平。
我生活贫苦,这难道是人为造成的吗?
我询问苍天,苍天却沉默不语,并不痴傻。
请您看看那松树与柏树是如何承受风霜的,
它们何曾期盼过与和煦的春风相约呢?
To succeed in the world, one must be cunning and sly,
Yet the simple and clumsy are closer to virtue, by and by.
All men laugh at the bearded one, his fate they deride,
Alone I heave a long sigh, with him I abide.
Is poverty my lot, shaped by mortal design?
I ask Heaven, but Heaven gives no answer, benign.
Behold the pine and cypress, how they endure and stand,
Do they ever expect the favor of spring's gentle hand?
