不要说山园土地贫瘠，
它能让菜根长得肥壮。
虽然饮食没有肉食，外表显得清苦，
但谷物能免去灾荒之年的饥馑。
看着这简单的几样菜蔬，
何时我的腰围才能粗壮到十围？
试来评断：是能够清楚地看清自己更好，
还是穿着过于宽大、不合身的衣服更胜一筹？

Do not say the mountain garden is lean and bare;
It can make the vegetable roots grow plump and fair.
Though my meals lack meat, appearances are deceiving,
The grains will spare us from the hunger of a failing year.
Look at these three or nine kinds of humble fare,
When will my waist grow stout, ten arm-spans in girth?
Let's judge: which is better, to see oneself clear,
Or to wear clothes too large, unmatched to one's worth?
