冬来玉烛更调匀，傍岁先教雪报春。

dōng lái yù zhú gèng tiáo yún， bàng suì xiān jiào xuě bào chūn。

色借楼台呈气象，力欺狐兔失精神。

sè jiè lóu tái chéng qì xiàng， lì qī hú tù shī jīng shén。

故应桃李知阴德，聊许冰霜作后尘。

白话文翻译

冬天来临，天时如白玉烛般调和得更加均匀，

临近岁末，先让飞雪来报告春的消息。

雪色借楼台亭阁呈现出恢宏气象，

雪势欺压狐兔，使它们失魂落魄。

桃李理应知晓白雪暗中滋养的恩德，

姑且容许冰霜作为春天的后继者。

不必辛苦描绘渔翁蓑衣垂钓的图景——

使君您的诗句本就清新脱俗。

As winter comes, the jade candle is tuned more evenly,

By the year's end, snow is sent first to herald spring.

Its hue borrows from towers to present grand spectacle,

Its force subdues foxes and hares, draining their spirit.

Thus, peach and plum should know its hidden virtue,

For now, allow frost and ice to trail as dust behind.

No need for a fisherman's cloak in laborious depiction—

Your verses, sir, are naturally fresh and clear.
