By the balustrade, thick flowers, dreams about to tilt,
At the fifth watch, clear dew locks the cold door tight.
Tomorrow I fear to break the promise of seeking fragrance,
At dawn, I gaze levelly at the clear shadows leaning close.
Adorning kingfisher feathers, I pity my shyness before the dancing mirror,
Sending off spring, helpless, I listen to the cuckoo's call.
Golden lotus breaks through moss, leaving fragrant traces,
Pear blossoms turn in the wind, flying like snow.
On the sand, sunny ducks peep at the shallow isle,
By the pines, yellow butterflies circle the sparse fence.
Urging verse, a patch of rain, clouds all turn black,
Wild catkins bully people, purposely dotting clothes.
Heart's matters, willing to end with the flowing water?
New sorrows are not suited to the wine cup.
Green plums have already borne fruit on the branch tips,
The post-house messenger can't bring word from beyond the Long hills.
Laughing, I break wild flowers, lightly tuck them in my hair,
Yet I dislike the streamside willows, jealous of my slender brows.
Passing by the bamboo courtyard, I contemplate Chan's meaning,
Seeking out the old poems from the cloud-forest days.
Listening fully to the wandering lad's song of ancient tune,
I pause to watch the fisherman descend the mossy rock.
Purple mountains stretch far; the journey should be fine,
Green stone steps wind around; each departure is slow.
Silken sleeves flutter, full of fragrance,
Green shade slowly thickens, birdsongs grow faint.
Leisurely, boundless, wounded by spring thoughts—
When fragrant grass reaches the horizon, the heart breaks.
