In a year of great drought, it becomes a soaking rain;
Prayed for, the rain falls, and the drought's pain is slain.
The single word 'sincerity' rivals Heaven's might,
A truth the ancient sages held in sacred light.
For twenty years, the star of plenty graced Shu's land,
Wherever it touched, harvests of grain were grand.
Yet the world, unsparing, tramples them with disdain,
Wasting precious crops, discarding them like dirt in vain.
Moreover, some indulge and bully without bound,
Their arrogance, a raging flame, to Heaven's height is found.
The three bonds and five constants decay and are undone,
Thus harmony is hurt, and Heaven's wrath is won.
The drought demon brings disaster, summer heat burns high,
The sunbird soars, ninefold its power in the sky.
Clouds of fire steam the meat-mountains like a pot,
Helpless against the heat god's 'This is my lot.'
The Duke, with anxious heart for people's suffering, grieves,
Sweeps away the feverish miasma, clarity retrieves.
He recalls once serving by the Jade Emperor's side,
Given golden rules to patrol the realm wide.
Handling cases, he surpasses Yan Lugong's fame,
Along the road, 'Censor's Rain' spreads his name.
No common woman's grievance goes unheard, they say,
Who in Western Shu would dare to disobey?
Harmony brings auspice, all strife should cease,
Joy to see the old government in peace.
If such reverence marks an era of good sign,
Sweet moisture comes in order, a blessing divine.
Stone swallows fly in vain, the Shangyang bird may dance,
How can burrow-dwellers question fox or rat's chance?
Shamans and wizards cease, drums and flutes now rest,
The dragon's virtue seeks the river-sea's breast.
For the western harvest, sacrifices to Field Ancestor are made,
Well-fed, not proud, the people's joy does not fade.
Once lamenting, now content, such change profound,
To reverse Creation's course, the Duke's power is found.
His pure spirit, like jade unburned, shines bright,
He moves the August Heaven, returns as minister of light.
Blazing not like rain that turns the wind around,
He harmonizes Yin and Yang, with Lu's fief crowned.
To ward off disasters, guard against woes, is rare in any age,
Not just in enlightened times to continue the ancient sage.
May we long for a soaking rain, think of worthy aid,
Engraved in steadfast stone, this poem's record is laid.
