哪里会料到后世的情形竟真的与此相似?
战国末年,各国势力相互倾轧,
齐国、赵国与信陵君争相礼贤下士。
有什么办法能让楚国重新强大起来?
三千门客,许多人穿着缀有珍珠的鞋子。
一旦没有提防那意想不到的人,
便身死家破,只留下朱英的魂灵。
唉,供养了如此多的门客,
其得失与一个老兵又有何区别?
吴国故地荒凉,旧城依然存在,
庭院殿宇中,只听见钟磬的声音。
松风里传来猿的哀鸣与鹤的怨叹,
遗恨如江水般流淌,终究未能平息。
Have you not heard of the two princesses who attained immortality by playing the flute,
Their mansion gate adorned with golden plaques bearing imperial decrees?
Have you not heard of the Ma family's grand hall, its splendor not yet dimmed,
Yet its gate now inscribed as the 'Garden of Sincere Offering'?
Since ancient times, generals and ministers have built lofty mansions,
Which now, if not turned into gardens, become temples.
I observe Lord Huang Xie when he served as the Prime Minister of Chu,
Could he have foreseen that later times would truly mirror this?
In the late Zhou era, the states vied for dominance,
Qi, Zhao, and Lord Xinling competed in honoring scholars.
What strategy could restore Chu's former strength?
Three thousand guests, many in pearl-adorned shoes.
Once he failed to heed the warning of an unexpected man,
His life was lost, his house ruined, leaving only the spirit of Zhu Ying.
Alas, nurturing retainers in such great numbers,
What difference in gain or loss compared to a single old soldier?
The desolate ruins of Wu, the old city still stands,
In its courtyards and halls, only the sound of bells and chimes is heard.
Amidst the pines and wind, apes mourn and cranes lament,
The lingering regret flows with the river, never to be pacified.
