悲叹夏天的田垄，
南边田里的禾苗还未长高，
东边高地上的野草已经长齐了。
随即让老妇去准备送饭，
独自带领壮年男子去除稗草和稊草。
悲叹夏天的田垄啊！
炎热的天气炙烤着脊背如同烤鸡，
渴了却不能喝到清澈的溪水。
怎知在那水榭和冰山环绕的地方，
还有人频频嫌怨太阳没有西斜。

In southern plots, the seedlings have not grown tall;
On eastern banks, the weeds already stand in full array.
I hasten to bid the women prepare the midday meal;
Alone I lead the men to weed out tares and darnel.

In scorching heat, my back is roasted like a fowl on fire;
When thirst comes, I cannot drink from the clear stream.
Who would know, in waterside pavilions by icy hills,
They still complain the sun has not yet set in the west?
