Through Hangu Pass's rugged path, the Qin deer fled in haste,
All under heaven gave pursuit, for power and glory raced.
Clouds torn, sky overturned, the giant turtle's leg broke down,
The common folk like crickets hid in fear throughout the town.
But in Wuyi's deep mountains where the waters run so clear,
A recluse's trace remains, who fled the world right here.
The Dragon Pool flows eastward where sea waves surge and swell,
The Jade Maid's emerald hair with autumn clouds and pines doth dwell.
True bones of crimson sky are sketched upon the empty wall,
My common brush by fountain's art feels inadequate and small.
A floating bridge like hidden boat spans o'er the dreadful vale,
Now seen, now lost, as if with Milky Way it could regale.
The cocks and dogs of bygone days no longer can be found,
The rocky caves are draped as e'er in misty haze around.
I came when autumn neared its end, the moon was full and bright,
And hidden 'mid the brambles still, some chrysanthemums light.
Heaven's face washed clean by recent rain, the air is fresh and new,
Cloud curtains rolled on four sides back, no wind the stillness slew.
I raise the awning, ply the oars to seek the strangest view,
And gazing, fancy still can see the fading crimson hue.
Returning, staff and sandals tread the secluded way,
Where pines and bamboos gracefully ring the jade palace gay.
On verdant tablets warm words gleam like broidered robes so fine,
And golden plaques with dragon scripts in interlacing twine.
I pity my sick frame ensnared in worldly dust's tight net,
How could I join the lofty feast on Manting Peak be met?
I doff my robe and lie to rest on jade-like fragments strewn,
And watch the bright moon penetrate the sparse awning's cocoon.
