德行虽大，却不善于运用，
命运多舛，实在令人同情。
身为管理百姓的官吏，清廉到了骨子里，
却像鸡肋一样，承受着尊贵拳头的重击。
姑且像塞翁失马一样，暂时失去，
但终究会像王子敬一样，失而复得他的毛毡。
桂林之地，聚集着才智出众的士人，
愿他能安稳地泛舟于红莲之上（喻指仕途顺遂）。

A great virtue, clumsy in its use, alas,
A fate so odd, truly pitiable it is.
The people's officer, pure down to the bone,
Endures the mighty fist, a chicken rib's abyss.
Like the old man who lost his horse at the frontier,
He'll yet regain the felt, as Zijing did of yore.
In Guilin, among the finest scholars here,
May he sail serenely on the crimson lotus shore.
