在官署中独坐,面对秋色更添悲凉;
分别已久,我正深切地怀念着你;
秋高气爽,人心舒畅;
我正心绪纷乱,无以自遣;
明朝你离去后,桂花也将凋残;
I long to leave office and return to the cliffs and valleys, but my wish is not yet fulfilled;
My face is covered with dust, too weary to wash and comb.
Sitting alone in my official residence, I feel even more sorrowful in autumn;
How glad I am to see you, my friend, halting your carriage here.
After our long separation, I have been missing you deeply;
Once my thirsty heart is now comforted and nourished.
Heaven aids me in finding pure joy,
Sending down these celestial flowers to offer their rich fragrance.
Thousands of branches, finely broken, are like fragments of gold;
Several trees, dense and shady, cluster together like green jade.
Their natural grace and charm seem to come from the moon,
Rather despising the vulgarity of worldly peach and plum blossoms.
Autumn is high, the air crisp, and people's spirits are lifted;
Only I, in declining health, feel no joy, alone.
Why then am I so captivated by these flowers,
That I gaze at them beneath the eaves all day, never satisfied?
Moreover, I am delighted to meet a forthright and open-hearted man,
Who, from afar, pursues the fishing of Jiang Taigong and the seclusion of Fu Yue.
We must know that Heaven intends us to chant and sing at length,
Directing us to Junyang to gaze upon the tall bamboos.
Seeing the flowers, I take up my brush and compose a long song,
Brilliant as pearls and gems, hundreds and thousands of pecks.
I, with my troubled thoughts, find no solace in myself;
Obtaining this, I examine it closely and read it again and again.
Tomorrow, when you depart, the flowers too will fade;
I shall only take this new poem and recite it over and over.
