激流推动水碓，嘉陵的百姓，
构筑高架，深挖洞穴，实在辛苦。
十里之内都共同使用这器具，
麦子进去，面粉出来，没有空闲的人。
那些百姓住在险峻之地，物产稀薄，
世世代代都靠这江边生活。
朝廷派遣使者兴修水利，
可叹你们这平轮与侧轮啊。

The rushing water drives the mill for the people of Jialing,
Building it high, digging deep, truly toilsome and hard.
Within ten li, all share this common device,
Wheat goes in, flour comes out, never a moment idle.
Those folk dwell in perilous lands, their produce meager,
Generation after generation feed by this river's edge.
The court dispatches envoys to promote water's benefit,
Alas, I sigh for your horizontal wheel and vertical wheel.
