It winds and circles round my steps and door.
Its clear cool flow brings joy, yet not for long;
Its sobbing murmur tells no grief or wrong.
Calm, it bears floating petals light as dreams;

But I dislike to watch the river wide—
Where now and then a sinking boat may glide.
