A small reed I planted in the courtyard, by my feet.
A pure breeze visits now and then, without a call.
How does its zest differ from the green bamboo's, standing tall?
I tend it with especial care, my affection profound.
With lute and wine, I enjoy its company, joy unbound.
Chanting aloud, I must find delight in this serene view.
A dozen or more carefree stalks, graceful in morning dew.
